Playa del Carmen is a small tourist and resort town located in the Riviera Maya of the Yucatan Peninsula, about 30-45 minutes south of Cancun.  It is located right on the beautiful turquoise Caribbean and is known for its night life, high end resorts, great restaurants and beautiful and uncrowded white sand beaches.

Playa del Carmen is a great place to stay if you are visiting the Cancun amusement and outdoor parks Xel-Ha, Xcaret, and Xplor or visiting the Mayan ruins of Tulum, Coba or Chichen Itza because of the close proximity.  The island of Cozumel is just offshore and easily accessible via ferry.  The ride takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
